3 Reasons We Kill Our Dreams

“Nah, I will never be able to do this”, the little voice inside our heads chant when a dream reaches the cerebral cortex. The best thing you can do for yourself is tell that voice to shut up! It’s bad enough when someone else tells us we cannot do something. However, it is worse when WE believe that we cannot do something. Stop killing your own dreams. If you can think it, chances are you have the capability to achieve it. Yes, there is a difference between dreaming and exaggerating, but if you have the ability to even give something a thought, you also have the power to execute that thought knowing that you have to put the effort required.  Don’t kill your dreams, but turn them into the reality you imagine.

One of my favorite quotes is by Eleanor Roosevelt, ” the future belongs to those who believe in the power of the dreams.” if you only dream and do not transport them into the future, you will be stuck in the past or the present longer than necessary. Stop thinking that you cannot do something. Why not? Why can’t you finish school? Why can’t you apply for that job and ace the interview? Why can’t you make the effort and become a better person? Why can’t you quit smoking or whatever? I can sit here and write a list of Why Can’ts and Why Nots, but I will spare you since I am certain you get the point I am trying to make here.

Here are a few ways we kill our dreams:

Lack of mental confidence

Many times, people who seem confident to the naked eye tend to be mental dream killers. Before the dream reach their mouths, they decapitate it by allowing the little voice to become negative. We are in charge of that voice whether it is positively reinforcing our thoughts or negatively killing them. Therefore, confidence is not just an outward stance, it is mental as well. Before others can encourage us to take a step forward with our dreams, we need to first believe that we are capable of taking that step. For those of you who are outwardly confident yet mentally negative, it is time to transfer some of that confidence up to your cranium.

I am a 26 year-old educator on the run of becoming all that I can in the time that I have. A few years ago, I embarked on a journey filled with spiritual discoveries, healthy habits, and a passion for education stronger than I've ever had. Learning what to do to become a better person have always interest me. One of my passions is to know a little about everything in order to gain the capability of forming my own opinion so others won't have to do it for me. Another passion that was buried deep inside finally came to the surface and allowed me to see the adventurous side of me. I am on a journey to see the world and do things outside of my comfort zone. I will write all about it along the way!
