The Peace in Protection

The word peace has been thrown around quite a bit, even to the point of being reduced down to two fingers and many times with very little thoughts of what the word actually means. Psalms 119:165 uses peace in this fashion, ” great peace have they who love Your law, and nothing can make them stumble”.  Think about it, peace so great you cannot stumble because nothing can move you to the point of stumbling, for great is the peace that is with you. further on in the bible Jesus says,”I am leaving you with a gift–peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid” ( John 14:27). I recently learned that beyond the fact that peace comes from God, it is the protection that comes with the peace that makes it so great. Peace is protection; knowing that although things may come that could cause you to stumble, you won’t because you are protected and you were given peace that the world cannot take away. Therefore, if you lose your peace, it is not the fault of people or things, but your perspective of the peace you are carrying. Your peace has many purposes; such as to stand firm, to be unbreakable, to be untouchable.

I have never really been a serious dog person, but over time of continuously going over to a friend’s house who owns a dog, slowly I am beginning to not only tolerate them but actually like them more and more. To prove it, I agree to dog sit for a friend. I needed the quiet time alone and I had the free time so it was not a big deal. I am glad I did because I learned something about peace that I was not aware of before. There were moments where the dog and I would sit on the couch until all of a sudden it started barking and going towards the direction where it thinks something is not right. All the while I was confused (I never had a dog so I didn’t how keen their sense of protection is) trying to figure out what in the world is it barking at. Fair enough, seconds later the door bell rang. Although I was not sure of what was going on, I was not moved because I know whatever was happening the dog got it under control. I was at peace because I had the protection of the dog. That peace I felt came from God. The protection came from God as well but it manifested through the dog.

The point I am trying to make is that peace equals protection and when we understand where our peace comes from we don’t have to fear because whatever happens, peace can protect us. Have you ever almost gotten in a car accident but was able to avoid it? You had no idea how you are still alive or how your car is still intact. After the initial shock you just went on about your business. That is one of the examples of peace and protection colliding.

I am a 26 year-old educator on the run of becoming all that I can in the time that I have. A few years ago, I embarked on a journey filled with spiritual discoveries, healthy habits, and a passion for education stronger than I've ever had. Learning what to do to become a better person have always interest me. One of my passions is to know a little about everything in order to gain the capability of forming my own opinion so others won't have to do it for me. Another passion that was buried deep inside finally came to the surface and allowed me to see the adventurous side of me. I am on a journey to see the world and do things outside of my comfort zone. I will write all about it along the way!
