True Life “Splash’d by DKG”

We all have goals, dreams, and aspirations…in fact, we all have a purpose. Some lose their way, others never bother to truly find theirs, and some stumble upon it on a whim by just choosing to be different. It’s funny how something can seem so small one moment and end up truly escalating quicker than you would have ever expected all because you have a dream. I have been blessed with the privilege of seeing this happen first hand. From my close encounter with it all, not only am I here to unveil the beginning of a story, but I am here to tell you never underestimate your potential and work hard, stay focused, and always remain humble.

It all started in back in October of 2013 in Birmingham, Alabama with a young man, his creative spirit, and a pair of denim. He just wanted to be different. Instead of going out and finding something he hadn’t seen anyone else wearing he decided he wanted to create something bold on his own. As I think back on the conversations we had I laugh, because I remember not being worried at all about his idea failing. It’s crazy, because I didn’t even think twice about handing over a pair of my jeans and saying have your way with them, and  the next time I saw those jeans I was truly amazed. I mean I knew he had all the potential in the world to create something great, but he was definitely on to something and that something needed a name immediately. Thus, Splash’d by DKG was established.

Social media has become the stepping stone to some very great things. A few pictures uploaded to Facebook turned into an inbox of inquiries and orders from friends and family wanting this intricate technique done to their denim as well. Everything started taking off from there, and all we could think of was “look at GOD.” At this point the designer had his work cut out for him. He was working a full time job, and now also positioning himself into entrepreneurship. When he wasn’t working at his secular job, he was splashing denim, which was still working, but his grind paid off, because it wasn’t long at all before the opportunity arose for him to showcase his line in his first fashion show.

Although it was a lot of work involved outside of his secular job and being a father, everything turned out to be a total success. Not only was the door opened to reveal his talents, but he connected with so many different people who are talented as well. If you know anything about business at all then you know networking is essential. His passionate and humble spirit has truly taken him the distance in such a short amount of time. He began challenging himself and broadening the scope of his work, which has in turn truly heightened the scale and quality of Splasd’d by DKG. That is why I am here to tell you to never underestimate your potential.  Although this has all required many hours or persistence, determination, and sacrifice; now, only 10 months later, he has already finished his 5th fashion show, overseen his first official photo shoot, and his social media pages are continuing to grow daily.
