What If…

***I saw the preview for the new food industry film and it stirs something in me. If you have a heart for being healthy, you should look into the new film, “Fed Up“. It surfaces the truth and brings the facts that a lot of us should keep in mind when consuming food.

What if the labels on the food you eat explained how it was truly processed

That the cows killed to make your steak was overstuffed with hormones and mistreated like plastic

What if instead of 890 grams of sodium in your frozen dinner, it reads heart attack, stroke, or blood pressure upon consumption

Have the ingredients with names you cannot pronounce that can cause cancer written in big bold letters

The small prints are what cause the biggest pain

All the while the ginormous prints that are not concerning , are the ones being advertised

What if that 19 grams of sugar in that half cup of delicious Greek yogurt is translated to what it really means diabetes, blood pressure, obesity

That the FDA doesn’t require putting the exact amount of saturated fats as long as it is below 1 gram when in reality by the time you finish your favorite bag of potato chips you will have eaten well beyond 1 gram because that less than one gram adds up with each serving of the five servings in the bag

It’s funny when it comes to proteins, the label will tell you even if it is just 0.3 gram of protein or fiber

That is what they want you to know

All the while, what you don’t know but should know, is slowing killing you

What if the labels actually say the total amount of servings instead of giving information for one serving and leave you to carelessly figure out the rest

They don’t care about your health but the no fighting ability you give the companies to make a profit off of you will continue to thrive

Make an effort, open your eyes

They won’t speak up for you because the money you are giving away in exchange for sickness speaks louder than any words they can dare think of

The people who care and the ones you refuse to listen to already calculated for you that by 2050 1 in every 3 Americans will be obese,

not mentioning other diseases that are already raging through the population as of now

What if you take the time to simply say no

And give up the fast lane at the fast food rest-all-you-want and let me kill you while I take your family dinner time  and money away

What if you exchange that for a slow cooked dinner with ingredients from the farmer who took the time to harvest natural crops because your health is more important than all the money he could selfishly take from you and all the fake toys he could give your children to further blind their innocence

These farmers are hardly in good business because they are marketing the truth that only some people choose to hear

Their packaging is not fancy enough, corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, and added sugar are not schemes they want to partake in

What if you took the time to educate yourself…? Would you still eat that? Give your hard-earned money in five minutes or less? Dunk your greasy fries in vegetable-excuse me- tomato paste? Audaciously ask for colored sugared water-excuse me-  diet soda with your super-size meal that only cost 99 cents more?

What if? Ask yourself? Is it really worth it?

I am a 26 year-old educator on the run of becoming all that I can in the time that I have. A few years ago, I embarked on a journey filled with spiritual discoveries, healthy habits, and a passion for education stronger than I've ever had. Learning what to do to become a better person have always interest me. One of my passions is to know a little about everything in order to gain the capability of forming my own opinion so others won't have to do it for me. Another passion that was buried deep inside finally came to the surface and allowed me to see the adventurous side of me. I am on a journey to see the world and do things outside of my comfort zone. I will write all about it along the way!
