Settling, Not Settling
Lights shining across my face, I said yes
To become his queen, I accept
When all the while the king in him has not been released
My guards down for a split second
I almost made a mistake that would have cost me a lifetime
Only if the truth didn’t fail to come out of his lips
Only if I didn’t allow pretense to blind my heart’s eyes
I lost sight of where I was and headed back towards the wrong direction
wrong is wrong and it never feels right
Waiting for diamonds, I almost settled for gold-colored plastic
Looking for a king I blindly stumbled upon a peasant
When he used a stick to sweep me off my feet
I regained my sight
I picked up my own broom
I swept myself out of his arms
